IICRC

Certification

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is the world’s largest certification body for the flooring inspection, floor covering and specialised fabric cleaning and disaster restoration industry.

IICRC approved training is under-pinned by rigorous standards that are put together by dedicated working groups of industry professionals. The IICRC itself does not run courses but it approves instructors and their training facilities. Typically courses take two days and cover essential theory and practice. At the end of each course there is a multiple choice exam. Exam papers are independently marked – and successful candidates become certified technicians, with an opportunity to train further for higher level accreditation.

To keep up certification there is a small annual fee and a requirement to keep updated with developing techniques via continuing education credits (CECs). The benefits of certification are twofold. First there is the obvious advantage of being instructed in up-to-the-minute techniques which you can use in your day-to-day business; and, second, you can get additional certification for your firm. This allows you to promote your services as IICRC certified.

That over 3,000 firms and 30,000 technicians worldwide have made this journey suggests the value of teaming up with the IICRC. The IICRC headquarters are in the US but it is an international organisation that operates in a number of countries including the UK.
